Family Stories
Here are a couple of stories that illustrate Christian’s stubborn side:
Las Vegas
Karl, Lori, Brittney, Brittney’s friend Alex, and Christian went to Las Vegas. Christian was several years younger than he is now, and for reasons that we can’t seem to remember, Christian became upset while we were walking around the Las Vegas strip going in and out of various hotels. (A good bet would be that we refused to buy him something) Christian decided that if he did not get his way he was going to refuse to continue with the group. He refused all forms of reasoning, threats, and even some bribery. He simply would not budge and refused to walk any further. At the time we were several miles from our hotel. Karl had to resort to carrying him. Although he was smaller than he is now, he was still too big to carry for very long and despite further attempts to reason, threaten and bribe him, Christian he still refused to walk. The solution: On smooth surfaces and carpet, Christian was drug on his butt in a sitting position by one arm through several Casinos’. This went on for about a half an hour.
The Disneyland A
In front of the entrance to Disneyland - California Adventures the word ‘CALIFORNIA’ is spelled out in giant letters. After a long day at Disneyland, we paused outside the entrance and Christian decided that he wanted to climb the last ‘A’ in ‘CALIFORNIA’. He was attempting to climb into the cross bar portion of the ‘A’. Over and over he tried, but he was just a little too short. He became more and more frustrated. We actually thought he was going to make it several times. He was so close. He refused help and became obsessed. Everyone was tired of walking so we didn’t mind the entertainment while we rested out feet before the long walk back to car. Christian’s attempts continued. Frustration gave way to anger and he began to cry. Attempts were made to help him again which he angrily batted away. We then tried to convince him it was time to go, but he refused. After a long day at Disneyland nobody wanted to carry him this time. Recollections differ slightly on how long this went on. Lori thinks it was for an hour. He never was able to climb up onto the cross bar and had to be pulled away from the ‘A’ kicking and screaming.

** Brittney used to leave the house dressed in her Chick-fil-A uniform on days she was not scheduled to work. She was so dedicated to her job there that she would actually be asked to be dropped off there, in her uniform, on days that she was not scheduled to work . . . and some of us know why. ; )
